WMHS Holiday Dinner set for Dec. 13, Featuring
Florentine Opera Singers at Milwaukee Yacht Club
Singers from the Donald & Donna Baumgartner Studio Artists of the Florentine Opera will be featured at the Christmas Tree Ship holiday Dinner Thursday, Dec. 13, at the Milwaukee Yacht Club.
Members, their guests and friends are invited to the Wisconsin Marine Historical Society's 38th Annual Christmas Tree Ship dinner, starting with a cash bar at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m.
The Donald & Donna Baumgartner Studio Artists of the Florentine Opera will perform "Home for the Holidays" starting at 8 p.m. A quartet of singers, Nicole Heinen, Briana Moynihan, Nicholas Huff, and Nathaniel Hill, and pianist Ruben Piirainen, will entertain.
Tickets are $45 per person.
Dinner participants have a choice of entrées: Chicken Piccata with lemon caper butter sauce or Salmon with Pinot Grigio wine sauce and poached shrimp. Strawberry Cheesecake dessert will be served with either dinner.

The event is named after the Rouse Simmons which sank with a load of evergreens in Lake Michigan off Manitowoc County in 1912.

New Port Milwaukee Director To Address
60th Annual Meeting, Jan. 26 at SSYC
Adam Schlicht, Milwaukee's new port director, is the featured speaker at the Wisconsin Marine Historical Society's 60th Annual Meeting and Founders' Auction on Saturday, Jan. 26, at the South Shore Yacht Club.
This year's meeting will honor Louis Quarles, who helped found the Society in 1959. Mr. Quarles was a lawyer with the firm of Quarles and Brady and an avid sailor. He died in 1972 after a 64-year career in law.
A cash bar and silent auction will open at 5:00 p.m., with dinner at 7:00 p.m., followed by the program at 8:00 p.m. Black and white attire (no tuxedos required) and a ship's photographer to capture the evening's festivities will add to the event's "cruise ambiance" theme. Since 2010, Mr. Schlicht has held positions at the Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation, a unit of the U.S. Department of Transportation. Most recently he oversaw the corporation's Great Lakes Regional Initiative in Cleveland, being concerned with foreign trade and maritime and economic development in the United States and Canada.
A native of Oak Creek and a member of WMHS, Mr. Schlicht earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and a master of public administration from American University in Washington, D.C. Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett named Mr. Schlicht as director of Port Milwaukee, in 2018.
